I've had an interest in photography since about age 12, when my dad gave me his old SLR. I've been learning on my own about photography ever since, and enjoy the challenge of learning new techniques. My interest in photography grew even more after meeting my husband, who introduced me to the great outdoors and hiking. He's taken me places I never imagined I'd see! This literally opened up the world to me - there are so many places I now want to see and explore. In 2007, after attending a George Lepp seminar, I discovered the magic of digital photography, and I must admit - I would never go back to my film days.
I try to capture nature's beauty with my camera, whether it be a grand mountain scene or a simple, single wildflower. I especially enjoy photographing flowers and landscapes, but barns, courthouses and ghost towns/abandoned rustic structures are also favorite targets of my lens.
My images have been published in Kansas! Magazine, Colorado Life Magazine, Grand Valley Magazine, the Missouri Columbian newspaper, Grand Junction Daily Sentinel newspaper, Kansas Bankers Association's Scenes of Kansas 2010 Calendar , the Bank of Colorado's 2014 calendar, and the Colorado National Monument Association's 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 calendars. I have displayed photos at Steamboat Art Museum, Aspen Photo Art Gallery, and Gallery at Studio j. Additionally, I have been awarded numerous Weekly Pick Awards from Nature Photographer's Network, was selected as the November 2013 "Gallery of the Month" by Nature Photographer's Network, awarded several honorable mentions from PSA, received numerous ribbons from the Kansas Garden Show Photography Contest, and two images have been featured on Outdoor Photographer's Your Favorite Places web gallery. I also was a finalist in Outdoor Photographer's American Landscape 2014 photo contest. Also, several organizations are currently using my images as cover shots on their Facebook pages.I use a Canon 60D digital camera, Canon lenses (10-22 mm, 24-105 mm & 70-200 mm), Promaster 100 mm macro lens, 2X teleconverter, extension tubes, B+W circular polarizer, Singh Ray ND and GND filters, a plamp, a collapsible diffuser/reflector, and a Manfrotto tripod with a Kirk ballhead. When I don't want to haul my "big boy" gear, I stick a small Canon S10 in my pocket. I shoot in RAW, and for post-processing, I use Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5, with NIK plug ins.
